Reverse transcriptases are commonly used in research to apply the polymerase chain reaction technique to RNA, transcribing the RNA into DNA and making PCR analysis of RNA molecules possible. The reverse transcriptases are also used to create cDNA libraries from mRNA. Certain models are specially designed for optimized and efficient cDNA synthesis and PCR in a single tube, and these reverse transcriptases are thermostable and extremely active. Optimized buffer systems in many models allow for efficient amplification.
