Tubes with the StarTube design have star-shaped fins molded into the bottom of the tube, which increase the surface area and aid in adsorption and mixing efficiency. These tubes facilitate greater sensitivity and shorter incubation times than other immunotubes.
Three treated surfaces are available: PolySorp™, MaxiSorp™, and MiniSorp®. PolySorp™ polystyrene tubes have a surface that is appropriate for adsorption of less polar molecules, such as certain lipoproteins and lipids. PolySorp™ tubes may reduce high background readings associated with viral and cellular lysates. MaxiSorp™ polystyrene tubes have a surface that provides excellent affinity for immunoglobulins and proteins with a hydrophilic or mixed hydrophobic/hydrophilic character. Tubes with MaxiSorp™ surface are certified for consistent binding. MiniSorp® tubes are made of molded polyethylene and have low non-specific protein binding characteristics compared to ordinary glass or plastic tubes. MiniSorp® tubes are excellent for RIA and can reduce the need for added carrier proteins.
MiniSorp® tubes are suitable for solution reactions and for storing immunoassay reagents.
